BCI Integrated Solutions worked with Optical Cable Corporation (OCC) to install the new fiber optic cable for the water treatment plant. Tampa Bay Water chose to upgrade their aging copper to ruggedized fiber optic cable after eventually experiencing periodic issues with the copper installed 15 years prior.
These kind of upgrades are critical when it comes to managing multiple water sources, which Optical Cable Corporation’s Jeff Miller likens to an orchestra. Systems exposed to the environment, including weather, animals, and water are almost certain to degrade faster than systems housed in a building.
Optical fiber presents several advantages over copper you can read about in our essential guide to structured cabling. These advantages include transmission speed, future-proofing, and more.
